I Believe
I had a dream a few weeks ago where two people were giving me the exact same gift at the same time (unbeknownst to each other). I thought that was pretty weird. When I woke up, I decided to create a blog entry about it. As I began to write the blog entry, though, I woke up again. Apparently, the would-be blog entry about the dream was itself a dream.
So now even my blog is trying to get in on this crazy-dream action! (Stay outta my dreams, blog!)
There is no sacred territory, nowhere where I can say, "Ah! THIS is reality! I know this is real because I'm writing about it, or feeling it, or experiencing it in some way."
Really, all I can do is say that I "have faith" that this is reality (or that there even is a reality), and not a dream. I have faith because I have no choice.
There is absolutely no objective standard by which I can say, "This is real," and "This is a dream." When the dream seems just as real as reality; and when even an objective evaluation of the dream when one is "back in reality" turns out to be a dream; then there's no way to know what is real and what is a dream.
And so I have faith. I have faith that this is reality. Because I have no choice.
