Another "Reality" Post

I think this is like my fourth installment in the "What is Reality?" series. I was sitting with a couple of guys talking about this phenomenon of having dreams where you're sure you're in reality; only to wake up and be back in "reality"; only to wake up again and be back in "reality"; and so on. I made the point to them that, really, there's no way to objectively know whether we're in reality or a dream. It's all subjective. When I said that, though, I knew that I was in reality. I was just speaking hypothetically. I mean, it felt like reality, and I just knew that it was reality and not a dream. There was no question about that. Only thing is, then I woke up. Turns out it was a dream, after all. I guess I proved the point I made in the dream by waking up from the dream. Weird.

I Believe

I had a dream a few weeks ago where two people were giving me the exact same gift at the same time (unbeknownst to each other). I thought that was pretty weird. When I woke up, I decided to create a blog entry about it. As I began to write the blog entry, though, I woke up again. Apparently, the would-be blog entry about the dream was itself a dream. So now even my blog is trying to get in on this crazy-dream action! (Stay outta my dreams, blog!) There is no sacred territory, nowhere where I can say, "Ah! THIS is reality! I know this is real because I'm writing about it, or feeling it, or experiencing it in some way." Really, all I can do is say that I "have faith" that this is reality (or that there even is a reality), and not a dream. I have faith because I have no choice. There is absolutely no objective standard by which I can say, "This is real," and "This is a dream." When the dream seems just as real as reality; and when even an object...

Reality, What a Concept

I drove down to my local Starbucks a little while ago, only, when I got there, it was closed. It was 11:20, and they closed at 11:00. For some reason, I had thought it was earlier. But, more than being closed, the intersection it was at was completely dark and deserted. Not a single soul around. So I immediately made a U-turn and headed home. It was kind of scary. On my way home, things seemed a little strange, and I took a right turn at a stop sign much faster than I normally would have (in fact, I didn't stop at all). I thought to myself, "This is very strange -- the deserted street, the weird driving -- almost like this isn't real. But I know that this is real, because here I am, driving up the street." I continued this conversation with myself, and whoever might be out there, until finally I said, "If this isn't real, then let me be home right now!" And immediately I woke up. OK, so it was a dream. And we've all had dreams like that, where we thi...
